This architectural catalogue was compiled and written by architect Chun Byung-ok 천병옥 one of the first generation of female architects in Korea after Ji Soon. In this book, she cataloged Korean palace interiors, furnishings, and traditional patterns for posterity. It has been translated into English and Japanese.
There’s a prize named after her, the Chun Byung-ok Architecture Prize 천병옥 건축상, which supports women architects in South Korea and promotes the combination of Korean traditional and modern architecture together. Unfortunately, this award isn’t very well-known and hasn’t been given out for several years. The reason given on the website is that there aren’t enough qualified female architects. But I have always had my doubts about this explanation. The prize is by nomination, but it doesn’t explain who the jury is. It doesn’t say when or how to nominate someone for the prize. It just says that there are not enough female architects who deserve the prize.
