Helen Thomas on The Hearing Trumpet

Within the heart of this book lies a mysterious, and although sinister, still compelling institution where women can enjoy the fruits of age, from growing a beard to discovering that women can be men in disguise and vice versa. The curious social and psychological character of the place is reflected in its architectural forms, which are both described as sets in the text, and in drawings by Leonora Carrington’s son, Pablo Weisz Carrington.
