The Architecture of Accra

In celebration of the current home town of Erandi de Silva, invited editor for the December Solstice 2025 Insights newsletter, this collection gathers together writing by women about the architecture of Accra, with a bit of added wider context.
The list is quite long, and different kinds of text were found in a variety of places, often reflecting their geographical and socio-political situation. These range from reports of luxury housing developments by foreign architects, and responsive projects by Ghana-based architects and designers, to reflections on colonial heritage and examination of traditional technologies.
Various sources and library catalogues have been searched, but an especially important resource that reveals the current debate within the city on its architecture, available online, is the Accra Archive, A Digital Archive of Historical Records, Architectural Drawings, Images, and Artefacts from Accra, Ghana.
