ISBN+ is a contemporary art centre and specialised bookshop with the aim of making contemporary visual culture more accessible and comprehensible. ISBN+ serves not only as a hosting venue but also as a genuine meeting point where creators, artworks, and independent art publications converge.

Independent Publications

ISBN+ is dedicated to exploring, collecting, exhibiting, and distributing independent contemporary art publications from Hungary and the region. These include exhibition catalogues, artist books, art zines, and works on art theory.

Exhibitions

The ISBN+ Project Space showcases pop-up exhibitions of works on paper and prints created using various graphic reproduction techniques by young and mid-career Hungarian and international artists.

Video Gallery and Event Space

The ISBN+ screening room is a unique artistic venue in Budapest, dedicated exclusively to video works. With a capacity to accommodate up to forty people, it also serves as an event space hosting performative events, professional programs, and film screenings.

On the selection of titles, an editor’s note:

ISBN+ has curated a thoughtful selection of five books that resonate with the mission of Women Writing Architecture, emphasizing diverse perspectives and the intersection of art, architecture, and lived experience. Andi Schmied’s Private Views: A High-Rise Panorama of Manhattan offers a unique exploration of urban landscapes through the lens of exclusivity and architecture. Zsófia Keresztes’ After Dreams; I Dare to Defy the Damage navigates personal and collective transformation through intricate, dreamlike sculptures. Csilla Klenyánszki’s Pillars of Home examines the delicate balancing act of home and identity. Dorka Bartha’s Balaton Off Season captures the haunting stillness of Hungary’s iconic lake during its quiet months. Finally, Markéta Kinterová’s What You See Is What You Think challenges perception through its exploration of visual and psychological boundaries. Together, these works celebrate the convergence of art, architecture, and critical thought, amplifying the voices of women in creative disciplines.
