Petra Gehrmann on Eileen Gray: A House Under the Sun

28 May, 2021

It is not uncommon that women are written out of history or their work becomes associated with the work of others. Writer Charlotte Malterre-Barthes and artist Zosia Dzierzawska’s graphic biography about the Anglo-Irish architect and furniture designer Eileen Gray who was a pioneer of the Modern Movement in architecture centers around her most famous work E-1027 (a small villa in south France) tells that story. The aesthetics of the buildings influence the graphic novel itself and the story is told in beautiful moving sequences and a stunning design that leaves you wanting more.
